Are Some Apostolic Singles Arrogant?

Some Apostolic singles have a very high image of themselves. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but some men and women tend to find a long list of flaws in potential mates while ignoring their own shortcomings. One example is an overweight man who will not even consider dating an overweight woman. Another example is a girl who only wants to date someone in the ministry, but who has never even made herself available to teach a Sunday school class.

It is fine to have certain ideas about what you want in a mate, but it is just as important to ask yourself this question: What do I bring to the table? When you can take a good long look at yourself, it can be useful in many ways.

Self Improvement

In this day and age many people are extremely busy. A lot of people are simply not very self aware. When you make a point of evaluating your own strengths and weaknesses, it will give you the chance to then take steps to make some changes in the areas in which you might fall short.

In fact, it is a good idea to do this before you start to seriously look for your life partner. It will help you become the best person that you can be, and allow you to have more to offer a potential mate.

Deeper Prayer Life

When you hone in on the areas in which you need to improve, that can provide the impetus that will lead to a deeper prayer life. The reason is simple: No one can be their very best without help from the Lord. As you work on yourself and try to improve, you will find yourself asking for help from the Lord. The Lord honors such humbleness and will surely help you when you ask Him.

Finding a Suitable Mate

Finally, understanding that everyone – including you – has some flaws, it will make you less likely to be harsh when evaluating potential partners. Also, the more you learn about yourself, the more able you will be to choose a mate that is a good match, rather than choosing someone based on looks, what they do for a living or other superficial reasons.

Once you are dating, you should ask yourself what you bring to the table on a regular basis. It is easy to become complacent once you are in a relationship, and to find flaws with your partner. When you take the time to think about what you are adding to the relationship, it will help you to stay on track in the areas of treating your partner with respect and helping to propel the relationship forward.

Don’t worry only about what the other person can do for you. Make sure to spend just as much time wondering how you can be addition to the happiness in their life. This unselfish way of thinking will be useful not only when you are dating, but throughout the rest of your life.
